I think we as a current generation have underestimated the power of education in LIFE. There is a behavioral trait that we inherit by birth and that is called ‘SELF-CONTROL BIAS’.
People fail to act in pursuit of their long-term goals in favor of short-term satisfaction. Prefer small payoffs now compared to larger payoffs in the future. Now compare that statement to nowadays ‘INFLUENCERS’.
What they show you are you could be one of them, that is the thing that mills you into the trap. What they show you is a big fat profit statement, a sports car, and perfect buddies, but that’s ‘UNSUSTAINABLE’ to be really honest with you.
What they want you to be attracted towards is a short-term momentarily pleasure and ignore all the labor and hardship to build a ‘LEGACY’ for the long-term. And that is where youth falls into trap of ignoring the ongoing education and going for short-burst. Everyone around you who want you to fall into this trap has a vested motive. Maybe that influencer wants you to buy his/her course. Increase his viewership(earn more ad revenue). But you won’t see the hidden agenda for these people.
Many think education is a costly thing to do. True to some extent. But we are living in the most beautiful times where courses from colleges like Harvard, Stanford, MIT, etc are available on search engines very easily and are very affordable( you just need a mobile phone and an internet connection).
But still picking the right one is a challenging thing to do, YES! But that is the beauty of the Internet it gives you ‘CHOICES’ to do productive or unproductive things. Similarly, it gives you the choice of choosing the right course for yourself which you always want to pursue.
See there is a ‘BIG’ difference between EDUCATION and LITERACY. Many of you try to pause for a moment and ask yourself ‘Am I Educated or Literated’ and honestly you would be confused by now. What we see among many of us are only Literated people and not Educated ones. Literacy gives you the ability to oral or written skills.
But Education gives you the ‘ ENLIGHTMENT’. To see things as right or wrong, ethical or unethical. Education gives you perspectives in life. Literacy doesn’t ensure that you are an educated one but it only ensures how greatly you could write or speak things in the prescribed manner. And similarly, the educated one might not necessarily be literate but it does ensure that he/she knows the difference between right and wrong.
Education gives you maturity in life.
And lastly, I would want you to stop idolizing ‘DROP-OUT HEROES’. They are not to be idolized first just because they are dropouts so I should also do the same.
Firstly, if you idolize the ‘DROP-OUT HEROES’ they are dropped out from some of the most prestigious colleges in the WORLD. Have you ever heard someone saying I am being this successful and I have dropped out of Amity college, NO! And if you would that is very rare( No offense to Amity college).
And secondly, the ‘DROP-OUT HEROES’ you are idolizing are already mastered something before getting into the colleges and that is again very rare.
Think from this analogy, the colleges we are talking about that they dropped out of are so prestigious that they don’t take ‘DONKEY’ and convert them into ‘HORSE’, these guys are already been ‘HORSES’. That’s a bit harsh but accept it. Even the GOD of the stock market Warren Buffett says in his interviews that he applied to Harvard for a master's and he was rejected and then got into Columbia University. This implies how important it was to go through the right education path, where Warren Buffett met his mentor at Columbia University. So why are you in so a hurry?
Education is not a cost. It has a net positive value(NPV) for all future cash flows. It increases your Human Capital. Period
